Workforce Training: KCCD's 21st Century Energy will train and certify individuals in solar installations, creating new job opportunities and promoting clean energy.
Solar Installations: GRID Alternatives will provide solar installations for low-income households, helping to lower energy costs and support renewable energy.

Southeast Bakersfield is among the most disadvantaged communities in the City of Bakersfield and the State of California per CalEnviroScreen 4.0. Historically, Southeast Bakersfield is an area that has been impacted by disinvestment, annexation challenges, and inequitable investments.
To address local challenges, the City of Bakersfield applied for the Transforming Climate Communities Round 5 grant through the Strategic Growth Council.
The primary focus in Round 5 is to provide this community with the opportunity to transform a historically underserved area and rewrite the narrative of this region which residents can feel proud of.
The Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Program funds community-led development and infrastructure projects that achieve major environmental, health and economic benefits in California’s most disadvantaged communities. TCC empowers the communities most impacted by pollution to choose their own goals, strategies and projects to enact transformational change. This year, community residents, the City of Bakersfield, and local partners came together to develop the Southeast Strong TCC application.
Through this dedication of community-led collaboration, Southeast Strong was one of the four applicants awarded by the California Strategic Growth Council (SGC) of $22.1 million in grant funds to transform Southeast Bakersfield.
